Dr Isaac Leung, Dr Zoran Poposki and Professor Laurence Wood, from the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts represented the Hong Kong Institute of Education at one of the world’s leading Art Fairs. This year Art Basel Hong Kong, which ran from 24 to 26 March 2016 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, received a record of 70,000 visitors. The Crowdfunding Lab, co-presented by the Art Basel Crowdfunding Initiative and Videotage, was one of the most popular non-profit showcases where notable international artists, scholars, and curators participated in various roundtable discussions and presentations. The Lab featured video art works from the Videotage Media Art Collection, and also works from their partners, which include Casa Asia (Barcelona & Madrid), Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art/University of Salford Art Collection (Manchester), Momentum (Berlin), videoclub (London), Department of Cultural and Creative Arts/ The Hong Kong Institute of Education and its counterparts of other local universities.
The showcase attracted extensive coverage by international and local media, including the BBC, Hyperallergic, TimeOut HK, and the South China Morning Post. Dr Issac Leung, Lecturer of the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts, and Chair of Videotage, also presented his paper at the Salon Programme, in which he illustrated his concept of 21st century curating, along with other notable international speakers. Professor Laurence Wood and Dr Zoran Poposki screened examples of their recent video works at the booth, taken from their co-curated international video arts project, “Translations”.
